Tampa, FL Tattoo and Piercing After Care
Art Explosion Tattoo and Body Piercing
Since 2008, Art Explosion Tattoo and Body Piercing has been sharing after tattoo and piercing care solutions and instructions to Tampa, FL.
Tattoo and Body Piercing After Care:
For Tattoos:
- Do not touch your tattoo without thoroughly washing your hands in hot water and an antibacterial soap for as long as it takes to sing "happy birthday" to yourself. Do not let anyone else touch your tattoo ever, until it's healed.
- Once your tattoo is finished you will be washing it three-to-four times a day with warm water and antibacterial soap, making sure to thoroughly rinse soap residue off of the tattoo (showers count).
- After washing your tattoo, apply aquaphor for the first 24-48 hours and after each washing.
- Continue to use aquaphor three-to-four times a day to prevent your tattoo from drying out and losing ink. This procedure should be used until the tattoo is completely healed, which can take up to two months.
- Do not ever pick, scratch or force skin off of your tattoo while it's healing. Doing so will only prolong the healing process and affect the overall quality of your tattoo.
- Do not submerge your tattoo in any kind of water for any extended period of time, i.e.: pools, salt water, bath water, lake water, as this will cut off oxygen to your tattoo, which will make it heal poorly and have a huge effect on the quality of the tattoo. Shower are ok and suggested for washing your tattoo.
- Do not expose your tattoo to the sun during the healing process, or anytime in your life, as this will affect the quality of your tattoo and can affect the healing process.
- After your tattoo is healed, you can use a high SPF sun block containing zinc oxide, such as bullfrog sun block. Sun block should only be used after your tattoo is completely healed, as the ingredients in sun block can affect the healing process.
For Piercings:
- Clean your piercing three times a day: once in the morning, once after work, school or sports and once before bed.
- To clean your piercing use a mild antibacterial soap. No perfumed or acne treating soaps.
- Never use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or bedtime to clean your piercing. These astringents will dry out and irritate your piercing.
- Use q-tips to clean your piercing. Use a minimum of three q-tips per cleaning, never double dip your q-tip. Dip your q-tip into cleaning solution, clean with one end, wipe with the other.
- You will have a scab and crusty material on either side of the ring. Make sure this material is softened and wiped away before moving the ring. The crusty material will tear healing tissue inside the piercing. When you are able to move the ring freely, take your second q-tip and clean the part of the jewelry that was inside your piercing.
